Buckram hat

Photos of my fourth, and most complex hat from my millinery class (one and two are for my parents and they check this blog frequently; three is ugly and won't be posted). The crown and upper brim are turquoise silk layered with black organza, the underside and hatband are black silk, and the hat is lined with warm purple with matching grosgrain. Roughly 30 hours went into this hat and it fits a 24" head (I have a massive head).

Fun fact: buckram, the base material, loses its shape when wet so this hat can never be caught in the rain or else it will be ruined. Yet somehow these are the hats worn by the English at garden parties. I will never understand that.

Medieval drawing night

The theme for this week's drawing night was "Medieval" so I drew a more modern take on one of my favourite garments, the chaperon (a headdress with long swaths of fabric circling the neck or hanging from the headdress in a elaborate style).

Sorry about the lack of posting over here. I've been working on hats and my final pages for my comics class; the first two hats are on tumblr. I won't be posting them here until after Christmas as they're for my parents and they actually check this blog somewhat regularly. I'm also a bit hesitant to post here because I've been getting a lot of hits from spam/virus sites every time I post that are wrecking my stats.

Even more ink

Not even I am immune to X and Y

My roommate and, like, half the people I follow on tumblr are playing the latest Pokemon game. So I drew a cute girl based on one of my favourites, Eevee.

I'll probably give in eventually and by X (if I can borrow a 3DS long enough from a friend to play it; apparently it's really good and I really want to make a Ghost team).

More ink

Weeping because I like the B/W version more and I'm going to have to spend a lot of time cleaning it up so I can print a copy.

I got a Pentel brush pen

And is it fancy. Damn the line variation you can get with it.

Inktober

A thing called inktober (drawing with ink for the month of October) is happening over on tumblr so I've been doing a few ink/marker drawings. Enjoy.

Colour for a really old sketch

Finally got around to colouring a sketch from last summer. Tried changing up my colouring style and colour choices.

More fancy punks

My drawing method is now officially 1. try to draw something, 2. have it turn into a bunch of sour-faced punks. I'm not typing out what it says behind them here because this is my "attempt at being professional blog".
The guys's hands are easily the best hands I've ever drawn; that is, however, outweighed by the fact that his boots are the worst boots I've ever designed.

Mushroom Lady

Coloured the ink drawing I did last week in photoshop. Thinking that she's in need of becoming a sticker for my laptop some time soon. Also like the first thing I've ever drawn that I think would make a good print.

Ink

Started doing inks by hand again. I found this really fun so now all I want to do is draw things with a brush pen.

Future sketches

Doing a 30 day challenge over on my tumblr that focuses on costume/character design. I liked this sketch so I thought I'd post it here as well. This is from day 2.
Basically I wanted to create a simple, feasible design style which revolved around major environmental changes. Thus, breathing masks, heavy duty goggles, and almost completely covered bodies (skin-tight body suits with light layers over top).

More ladies because my blog didn't have enough drawings of women already

I have tailoring knowledge and like fancy dart placement. That is basically the purpose of this.

Redesign

Redesign of something old which I'm still kind of iffy on. Basically only kept the pants from the original design and redid everything else. Definitely some heavy Mass Effect influences (seeing as how it's been the life blood of my household lately). Tried new things with the lighting which I'm liking.

Adrian

Pair of illustrations of an OC, Adrian. Left, the canon design and right, a modern design spawned out of a K-pop fuelled night of drawing. I plan on doing another of these for Adrian's mentor, Amelia.

Adrian's a bit of an attention whore. Lots of tattoos in both versions and hair cut to emphasize the large tissue damage to the right side of Adrian's face and shoulder. Adrian doesn't really like clothes, but the canon design mimic's Amelia's clothes (because Adrian idolizes her and totally wants to be her). In canon Adrian tends to walk around with little to no clothing because, seriously, fuck that. Modern design... well, it's about as naked as a person can get while still being stylish and not breaking any laws.

Sketches

Drawings! I haven't been able to draw lately but here's a few sketches from this week.

Inspirations - I'm not quite sure at the moment, but I'm tempted to blame the large amount of BBC I've been watching since mum invaded. Also a pair of earrings from Oscura, which is a wonderful webcomic that has a very sketchy updating schedule.

Pencil

I'm not sold on the sleeves but I'm liking the head/shoulder area. This is one of those "damn it's 2 in the morning and I was just about to fall to sleep now I have to tumble out of bed to find the sketchbook before the idea leaves and gaaaahhhh why does light hurt so much" drawings. I'd like to work on it more later.

Ballpoint pen

Began sketching this while visiting my dad's shop on Saturday. If you haven't tuned into LoK yet you really should. The series is incredibly well researched and has some amazing production design. If you're a fan of fantasy, Asia, or the Roaring Twenties I cannot suggest this series more highly. I'm going to stop being a fangirl now.

My ballpoint pen skills are lacking. I really need to work on that. Clearly I am out of practice.

I'm hoping that I can get back into the game again soon. I'd like to finish the series started last week (and fix that illustration), get some character designs done, as well as some environment designs, and start experimenting with styles again - I'm not in a rut, but I do feel like I need to up the ante again some time soon. Also, please excuse my loopiness/rambling.
