Daily Draw best of days 12-20

I finally caught up on my daily draw. I drew them wildly out of order since I wanted to wait until the 14th for incubus/succubus and also because I was really behind on them so order stopped having any meaning. I was just finally almost caught up last week when I had two 10 hour shifts this past weekend. I did five of them in the past 27 hours and two in a few hours on Tuesday so I'm pretty frazzled.

From top to bottom: day 19 - dullahan, day 18 - cyclops, day 16 - alien, day 17 - ghost, day 13 - reptile, day 15 - true monster, and day 14 - incubus/succubus

Daily Draw February and 30 Day Monster Girl Challenge

I'm doing Daily Draw and a 30 day challenge over on my tumblr. I'll be posting recaps here at the end of each week but if you'd like to follow along as I go click the "daily draw" button at the top of my blog spot.

For now, here's the start, a raven harpy.

Postcards

Liz from my webcomic for promotional postcards I'll be sending out over the next few weeks in hopes of getting some freelance illustration gigs.

One of my biggest pet peeves in any narrative including robots/androids/AIs is the whole SYNTHETIC LIFE WANTS ONLY TO DESTROY ORGANIC LIFE that is pretty much the biggest mainstay of the genre. Liz, as a result is pretty fond of plants and a large portion of her character arc is trying to connect to organic life and further her own consciousness via her continued interaction with others.

More ink guys

More ink from last week's drawing night. My beloved roommate gave me a pair of moleskins for Christmas and man, it's like drawing on silk but without the guilt.

Another attempt at Samara

Samara's been on this blog before. She's one of my favourite Mass Effect characters - which is saying something because the series is one of my most beloved things in the entire world. But I have a lot of trouble with her character model; she's basically everything I've ever wanted in a badass lady, beauty, ferocity, determination that would make a Terminator blush. and untold wisdom of a thousand year life span. She had so much potential to be perfect but her model makes her look like a sexy strawberry and does absolutely nothing to convey her complexities. I wanted to try another redesign this time playing  around with the styles worn by Asari in game and made them more battle-monk-ish to suit her. I really wish she had have looked something more like this rather than blatant fanservice for the male segments of the audience.

Oh look, colour!

I realized I hadn't drawn anything in colour since September so I rectified that. Tried a different, faster method of colouring and am quite happy.

Final assignment

My final assignment! I got some really great feed back, so I'll make those changes for when these pages are actually in proper use... which brings me to exciting news. I'll be starting up a weekly webcomic called Making of an Android in the new year. These pages take place near the end of the first chapter after lots of character development leading up to Liz's breakdown. I chose to do these for my assignment as I felt they worked best for what was asked, and frankly, it was lots of fun to get into the meat of the comic.

I'll post a link for anyone interested once the site is up and running with the first page.

Mask people

I forgot to post these guys over here! I really liked drawing that little guy that I'm using as my icon everywhere so I did more. I'm thinking I might do a whole bunch and make them into a zine. I'm planning on doing some shows in the new year like Canzine and maybe Fanexpo if I can get a table ahahahahaha I just looked up how much Fan Expo tables are. Nope.

Week 4 comics!

Week 4 assignment: 8 panels/1page max, an argument between your character and a person they hate with an emphasis on dialogue.

Tried a different panel layout and actually used real text for my text bubbles. So many text layers. Elizabeth/Liz take after their father, if it wasn't obvious. It's the reason why her father won't look at her. She looks too much like him and is nothing like his baby girl. Her mother, meanwhile, just dropped off the deep end when their replacement daughter started growing a personality of her own.

Edit: Made some changes suggested by my professor to make the text and panels flow a bit better. I'm going to keep challenging myself with page layouts. Hopefully I'll pick up how to do lettering better along the way....

Even more ink

Bunch of ink drawings from last night's drawing session. The little fattie in the middle is now my icon for both this blog and my tumblr blog.

Not even I am immune to X and Y

My roommate and, like, half the people I follow on tumblr are playing the latest Pokemon game. So I drew a cute girl based on one of my favourites, Eevee.
I'll probably give in eventually and by X (if I can borrow a 3DS long enough from a friend to play it; apparently it's really good and I really want to make a Ghost team).

More ink

Weeping because I like the B/W version more and I'm going to have to spend a lot of time cleaning it up so I can print a copy.

I got a Pentel brush pen

And is it fancy. Damn the line variation you can get with it.

More fancy punks

My drawing method is now officially 1. try to draw something, 2. have it turn into a bunch of sour-faced punks. I'm not typing out what it says behind them here because this is my "attempt at being professional blog".
The guys's hands are easily the best hands I've ever drawn; that is, however, outweighed by the fact that his boots are the worst boots I've ever designed.

More Colour Tests

Lady counterpart to yesterday's boy. I don't even know what I'm doing anymore as I've stared at my computer screen for the length of 2.5 soundtracks and I'm going to go do something else now. Like make dinner.

Colour Tests

Colour tests for an illustration I'm planning. The first was a warmup; the later two are actually being considered.

Quorra

Quorra from Tron Legac, 2-2.5 hours
Had difficulty with her smile and a little bit with the colours but I really liked drawing her eyes. They're so expressive.
